Pre-operative functional MRI

Functional MRI is an imaging modality that allows identification of areas on the surface of the brain that have activity related to certain functions (movement, different modalities of communication etc). Having an idea about the location and extent of these areas help us plan our surgical approach to tumours covered by normal looking brain.  The functions of active areas on the surface of the brain is confirmed during awake surgery with intraoperative observations, and preserved to avoid neurological impairment.
